The Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) has pledged to enhance water resource management, maintain critical infrastructure, and support farmers to ensure food security and foster economic development.

The Managing Director of HJRBDA, Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman, made this known during a comprehensive familiarization tour of major water infrastructure projects under the authority’s jurisdiction.

The tour focused on critical water storage and hydroelectric facilities such as the Challawa Gorge Dam (with a storage capacity of 962 million cubic meters), Tiga Dam (1.968 billion cubic meters), and the Ruwan Kanya River Storage (50 million cubic meters).

According to him, “Several operational challenges such as damaged instrumentation, faulty pipelines, and general maintenance issues were identified, and intervention is on the way.”

He noted that hydroelectric power generation projects initiated by the Kano State Government at both Challawa and Tiga Dams were also part of the tour.

The Managing Director further emphasized HJRBDA’s commitment to supporting sustainable energy production and efficient water resource management in collaboration with state authorities.

He clarified that water charges collected by the authority are not taxes but service fees used to maintain and upgrade irrigation infrastructure.

Alhaji Suleiman reiterated HJRBDA’s dedication to improving water resource management, maintaining vital infrastructure, and supporting farmers to ensure food security and promote economic development.

He called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to fully harness the potential of the region’s water resources.

The MD also expressed gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the opportunity to serve and pledged to implement the Renewed Hope Agenda—particularly the Irrigate Nigeria Project—with renewed vigor and dedication.
