The Kano State Government is training health managers across the 44 local government areas on operational planning, monitoring and evaluation.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, said during the training on Wednesday that the initiative would enhance efficiency of health programmes by equipping managers with the skills to develop realistic plans, track progress and assess outcomes.
He added that the training was part of broader efforts to strengthen the state’s health system and improve health indicators.
Organised by the state’s Ministry of Health, with particular focus on Monitoring and Evaluation Officers and Annual Operational Planning (AOP) for the health sector, Labaran said that “the aim of the training is to decentralise knowledge to grassroots health officers across the state.”
According to him, the initiative is part of efforts to ensure rational, realistic, pragmatic and comprehensive health planning that will improve service delivery for the people of Kano State.
He said the training is expected to build capacity at ward levels to develop operational plans covering one to three years, noting that the state made significant progress in routine immunisation, especially in the wake of recent disease outbreaks like Diphtheria.
The commissioner noted that the present administration restored routine immunisation services, while supporting efforts toward mobilising community leaders and ward heads.
“Every child in Kano must be immunised”, he said.
He urged parents to bring their children to health centres for immunisation.
Nazifi Mahmud, Chairman of the Monitoring and Evaluation Officers Forum in Kano, described the initiative as timely, essential and key to daily health activities.(NAN)
