Education, governance critical for Nigeria’s Future



Education, good governance and nutrition are critical for Nigeria's only resource and future.

The 16th emir of Kano His Highness Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II said told newsmen on Saturday in Kano  the second edition of KAPFEST.

He said education remains most valuable asset in life, describing it as the only resource that cannot be taken away once acquired.

According to him," wealth, positions or material possessions can be lost, education endures permanently.

"Parents, governments and communities must prioritize education because “it is the only truth, and there is no alternative",he said.

The Emir reflect on his own upbringing that he benefited from government scholarships in secondary school and university, noting that such opportunities have declined for today’s generation.

He attributed this to failure of governance and misplaced priorities, stressing that investments in roads and structures are meaningless without investing in people.

"They are three major barriers to education in northern Nigeria which include language,  English sideline indigenous languages and Arabic literacy, despite evidence that children learn faster in their mother tongues.

"The space insistence on formal schools instead of using existing community structures such as mosques for learning.

"Also technology failure to use digital tools and devices that can give rural children access to the same knowledge as their counterparts abroad",he said

He urged Nigerians to always think of  human impact of policies, writings, or statistics whether in governance, writing or policymaking.
