Blasphemy Allegations: Shura Council to Summon Sheikh Lawan Abubakar

The Shura Council says it has commenced arrangements to summon Sheikh Lawan Abubakar Truimp to appear before its committee over allegations of blasphemy currently under investigation.

The Secretary of the Committee, Shehu Wada Sagagi, made this known during a press briefing on Sunday in Kano.

Sagagi said the Council was carrying out a detailed investigation into the alleged blasphemous statements attributed to the cleric.

He explained that after the preliminary investigation, Sheikh Truimp would be officially invited to present his defence before the committee.

“The Shura Council is working diligently to ensure justice is done. We are committed to giving all parties involved a fair and impartial hearing,” he said.

Sagagi urged stakeholders to remain calm and avoid sentiments, stressing the need for honesty, objectivity, and the promotion of peace and unity in society.

He also reaffirmed that the Kano State Government would remain neutral throughout the process, assuring the public of transparency and fairness.

“The government is not taking sides, and we want the people to have confidence that due process will be followed,” he added.

The development follows weeks of public debate over the allegations against Sheikh Truimp, with religious and civil society groups urging caution in handling the issue to prevent tension.

The Shura Council, a religious consultative body in Kano State, is mandated to address issues relating to Islamic teachings, clerical conduct, and social harmony within the Muslim community.
