Measles-Rubella Campaign: Red Cross Mobilises Over 3,500 Volunteers in Kano

By Editor  The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) says it mobilised more than 3,500 volunteers across 20 local government areas in Kano State to support the just-concluded measles and rubella vaccination campaign. The Secretary-General of the NRCS, Mr. Abubakar Kande, stated this in Kano while reviewing the exercise, which lasted for ten days. Kande said the campaign was part of efforts to complement the Federal Government’s initiative to eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases in the country. “As we are aware, Nigeria is still battling with vaccine-preventable diseases. We are working together with the government to ensure that all children under five years are protected against these diseases,” he said. NHRC, UNHCR train security, Govt agencies in Kano on human rights protection

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), has organised a high-level training for security agencies and government officials in Kano to strengthen human rights and humanitarian responses in the North-West region. The two-day training, held from Oct. 22 to 23, focused on integrating human rights principles into the operations of agencies working with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees, asylum seekers and returnees. Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of NHRC, Dr. Tony Ojukwu, SAN, represented by Dr. Benedict Agu, Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary and Project Coordinator, said the training was part of the ongoing NHRC/UNHCR 2025 Project on the Protection of Human Rights of IDPs, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Returnees through Information and Data Collection in Nigeria. Blasphemy Allegations: Shura Council to Summon Sheikh Lawan Abubakar

The Shura Council says it has commenced arrangements to summon Sheikh Lawan Abubakar Truimp to appear before its committee over allegations of blasphemy currently under investigation. The Secretary of the Committee, Shehu Wada Sagagi, made this known during a press briefing on Sunday in Kano. Sagagi said the Council was carrying out a detailed investigation into the alleged blasphemous statements attributed to the cleric. He explained that after the preliminary investigation, Sheikh Truimp would be officially invited to present his defence before the committee. “The Shura Council is working diligently to ensure justice is done. NCS tasks PROs on digital communication, tackling misinformation

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has charged its Public Relations Officers (PROs) to master digital communication and counter misinformation to strengthen public trust in the Service. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, gave the charge on Monday at the opening of a four-day capacity building workshop for PROs at Bayero University, Kano. Adeniyi, represented by the Acting Deputy Comptroller-General, Mr. Timi Bomodi, said a single message could go viral within minutes in today’s interconnected world, hence the need for PROs to communicate clearly, consistently and credibly. NDLEA Commander Bags Merit Award from Fagge Community

Ahmad, has been presented with a Merit Award by the Restore Fagge Community. The award, presented on Wednesday in Kano, was in recognition of the command’s sustained operations against drug trafficking networks in Fagge Local Government Area. Ahmad received the award on behalf of the NDLEA Kano Command. Mr. Nura Ubali, Head of Fagge B Ward, said the NDLEA’s operations had led to significant seizures of illicit substances and the arrest of suspected drug dealers. He said the operations had improved public safety and forced many dealers to abandon the trade, with some repenting. Ubali commended Ahmad and his officers for their efforts, noting that the community would continue to support rehabilitation initiatives for victims of drug abuse.
